Getting more customers is probably a business owner’s greatest challenge and ultimately the most important.
Hi, my name’s Nigel Botterill, founder of the Entrepreneurs Circle. Let me briefly share with you two really quick and easy ways that you could get more customers pretty much instantly.
The first is really easy – but I promise you it works. Seen it happen thousands of times in dozens of different industries and sectors.
Go back to every single customer that you’ve ever served in the past – you must be sat on a list of them. Maybe you have them in a spreadsheet, an email system or just a pile of invoices, the point is you already have a list of people who know and like you.
But they don’t wake up in the morning thinking about you. They’re busy people – just like you and me – and the truth is that they’ve forgotten all about you.
So remind them!
Get back in touch with them and give them an offer to get them back on board buying from you again. You could email them, put a letter in the post or call them. Doesn’t matter – they’ll all work. You see most businesses don’t ever do this one simple thing – and when you do you’ll make sales and get customers.

The second easy way for you to get more customers is to put in place a systematic referral system.
The truth is that the greatest sales people in your business are your customers. So, what have you got in place to ensure that your existing customers are actively telling their friends, family and colleagues about you?
Oh sure, every business gets some ‘word-of-mouth’ but that’s not what I’m talking about here. This is much more about a referral SYSTEM that becomes an integral part of your rhythmic acquisition of customers…
You could send them all an email to say “Hey, I really love working with people like you Dave, and you know the great service I offer. I wonder if I could ask you for a small favour? Could you help me by giving me two names of people who you know that would benefit from what we do. It would really help me and I’d be very grateful…”
People love to help others and when this is executed well you’ll get a good response.
Another way to systemise the getting of referrals is every time you serve a customer or complete a job, get them to fill out a referral postcard where they put the names of a friend or person they know and you then contact that person – or you give your customers an envelope with an offer on for them to give to their friends and family.
You can incentivise your customers to refer you, but referral systems usually work best if it comes from the kindness of their hearts rather than for monetary reward.
A third way to get hundreds of referrals is using a tombola. Seriously. We developed this system in 2013 as part of the rhythmic acquisition of customers for a dentist – and it worked like a dream. He went from getting a dozen or so referrals a month to getting hundreds every month and it’s a system that’s been successfully adapted and implemented in dozens of other sectors and industries.
